Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Sales has over twenty years of experience in the NHS as a psychiatrist. He has spent most of that time working with children, adolescents and families.
In 1999, he qualified as a medical doctor from the University of Lleida in Spain; that same year, he moved to London.
He completed his specialist child and adolescent psychiatry training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust. Here, Dr Sales also trained as a Systemic Practitioner. Over the years, he has developed skills in several psychological treatment modalities and theoretical models. He has worked and trained in other reputed organisations such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, the British Association for Psychopharmacology and the Anna Freud Centre.
Dr Sales has worked in several generic and specialist teams in a variety of settings, including community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, in-patient services, paediatric liaison, and national specialist services. This has equipped him to confidently assess and manage many different presentations from common disorders such as depression and anxiety, to complex systemic presentations or psychopharmacological challenges.
Dr Sales takes on a systemic approach to child psychiatry. He uses a wide range of tools and resources to support each young person in a holistic way, tailored to their individual needs. He tends to approach diagnostic assessments with children and young people with a wide context in mind. This may include the involvement of parents and families where possible, whilst respecting the patient’s right to confidentiality as appropriate for each case and age.
Dr Sales continues to work in the NHS, where he holds leading clinical and service development roles. He has a special interest in delivering systemic and integrated care. Within the NHS, he has led the development of several multidisciplinary and multi-agency consultative forums to that effect. He supervises specialist trainees and offers consultations and training to professionals within the NHS and partner agencies
