April Kerslake is a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist with experience working therapeutically with adults and teenagers. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology (Hons), Master of Health Science in Psychology, and Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology at the Auckland University of Technology in Auckland, New Zealand.
April has worked clinically within a primary healthcare setting, delivering care to individuals and groups facing a variety of challenges such as depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, grief/loss, personality disorders, stress, and identity and sexuality challenges. April has experience using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), compassion focused therapy, schema therapy and mindfulness-based skills.
April has also worked with adults with neurodiversity in a therapy setting, providing tailored support and interventions to help them thrive. She is dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where neurodiverse individuals can explore their strengths, develop coping strategies, and achieve their personal goals.
April’s approach to therapy is based on viewing health and wellbeing holistically by acknowledging social, physical, emotional, and spiritual impacts on health. April believes in working collaboratively with clients to understand their needs and goals to help them to understand their challenges and make changes towards a rich and meaningful life.
April’s areas of interest include mindfulness and meditation skills; April presented her mindfulness research at the International Conference on Mindfulness Asia-Pacific in 2022. April has experience volunteering for Rainbow advisory services within a Wellness context and has an interest working with LGBTQIA+ clients.
