Dr Agnieszka Klimowicz began her medical training at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, graduating with an MD and later completing a PhD. She also completed her specialist training in psychiatry and a Certificate in Psychotherapy. Dr Klimowicz has extensive experience in adult mental health, with a particular focus on perinatal and women’s mental health, and works as a Consultant Psychiatrist providing expert assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. She has supported individuals across a range of clinical settings including outpatient and inpatient services, and has worked with multi-agency teams to support maternal and parental mental health. She has been working as a Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist since 2010. In 2016/17, she was the Perinatal Mental Health Clinical Lead with South East Clinical Networks Mental Health and Dementia.
Dr Klimowicz treats a broad range of mental health difficulties including depression, anxiety, stress, personality disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder. She also provides specialist support for perinatal mental health difficulties, supporting women during pregnancy and the postnatal period, including those experiencing antenatal or postnatal depression and anxiety. Her work extends to providing parental mental health assessments for women undergoing fertility treatment and occupational health evaluations, including advice on fitness to return to work and early retirement on medical grounds.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Klimowicz is actively involved in medical education and training, including teaching psychiatric trainees, obstetricians, and general practitioners about perinatal mental health and attachment theory. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, contributed chapters to books on maternal mental health, and presented at national and international conferences, reflecting her commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in perinatal psychiatry.
