Dr Alex Thomas first began her training with a BSc in Psychology, followed by an MSc in Occupational Psychology, before transitioning to Counselling Psychology after clinical training. Her path has taken her through the NHS and the third sector, supporting adults facing diverse challenges in general adult primary care mental health services and specialist services addressing substance misuse, sexual health, gender identity, and HIV.
In the therapy room, Dr Thomas brings a relational and integrative approach, drawing on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy (ST), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Existential approaches. Dr Thomas works collaboratively with clients, tailoring therapy to their individual needs and fostering a safe, supportive environment to explore challenges and develop practical strategies for change.All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering clients as a whole person rather than a specific issue.
Dr Thomas works with adults facing a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, bereavement, burnout, substance misuse, living with long-term health conditions, OCD, ADHD, ASD, and issues related to sexual health and gender identity. She has specialist experience in anxiety, depression, substance misuse, burnout, chemsex and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.
