Dr Alex Thomas obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2006 and her masters in Occupational Psychology in 2009. Following a successful corporate career in the third sector, she transitioned to counselling psychology following her own experience of therapy.
Dr Thomas has worked clinically within the NHS and the third sector, where she has worked with individuals facing diverse challenges. She has experience working in general adult primary care mental health services focusing on issues around anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma and bereavement as well as experience in specialist services working with substance misuse, sexual health, gender identity and HIV.
Dr Thomas’ special interests include the treatment of anxiety, depression, substance misuse, living with long-term health conditions, burnout and chemsex. She also has particular interest and expertise in working with the LGBTQIA+ community.
Dr Thomas practises Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). She also practices Psychodynamic Therapy and draws on relational and existential approaches in her work with clients.
Dr Thomas is registered with the British Association For Counselling and Psychotherapy.
