Dr Alexandra Nicholson

Counselling Psychologist

Dr Alexandra Nicholson first began her training with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Surrey, before going on to complete an MSc in Occupational and Organizational Psychology and a Doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology (PsychD) at the same university. She also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People at the University of Reading. Her path has taken her through a variety of mental health settings, including the NHS, charitable organisations, higher education, and private practice, supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families.

In the therapy room, Dr Nicholson brings an integrative approach, drawing on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Humanistic approaches, and Systemic Therapy. She works collaboratively to tailor interventions to the unique needs of each individual, creating a formulation-driven, evidence-based plan. Dr Nicholson adopts a warm, empathic, and non-judgmental approach, aiming to provide a safe space for clients to explore, understand, and overcome their difficulties.

All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering you as a whole person rather than a specific issue. They tailor treatment and integrate multiple therapeutic perspectives to create a plan that is both evidence-based and uniquely suited to you.

Dr Nicholson works with individuals experiencing a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, stress, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, relationship difficulties, personality disorders, trauma, emotional dysregulation, bereavement and loss, work- or exam-related stress, as well as ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Whatever someone is struggling with, Dr Nicholson aims to offer support that recognises and respects their unique needs and experiences.
