Dr Basma Abdalla is a counselling psychologist who obtained an MSc in Psychology at University of Stirling and Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at Glasgow Caledonian University. Dr Abdalla is experienced in working with children and adults in a variety of settings including third sector, schools, and the NHS.
Dr Abdalla is an integrative practitioner and uses a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Person-centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She is also interested in using creative therapeutic techniques within her practice, such as through the use of objects and art.
She is experienced in working with clients experiencing emotion dysregulation, self-esteem difficulties, anxiety, depression, and self-criticism. Dr Abdalla is also experienced in working with people who are suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as she has worked in several complex trauma specialist services, including working with veterans, and has a special interest in working with clients who have experienced childhood and relational trauma.
Dr Abdalla works collaboratively with the client to understand their struggles and tailors therapy according to their needs, creating an environment that feels safe, containing, and supportive. She is passionate about empowering clients to find ways to lead meaningful lives and make decisions that are in line with their values and goals.
