Dr Christos Kouimtsidis first began his training in Medicine in Greece, before completing an MSc in Mental Health Studies at the University of London, specialising in CBT for substance misuse. He completed his psychiatric training in Adult Mental Health at South London and St George’s Mental Health Trust and Addiction Psychiatry as a Clinical Lecturer at the Section of Addictive Behaviour, St George’s University of London. He also completed a PhD at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London. His career has spanned NHS and private practice, supporting adults with a wide range of mental health and addiction difficulties, and includes lecturing posts at Imperial College London, St Andrew’s University, King’s College London, and St George’s University London.
Dr Kouimtsidis combines his expertise as a Consultant Psychiatrist with evidence-based interventions for mental health and substance misuse, including the use of pharmacological and psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for addiction. He works closely with patients to understand their difficulties and develop treatment plans tailored to their needs, integrating medical, psychological, and social considerations.
Dr Kouimtsidis works with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, panic disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He has specialist experience in the treatment of alcohol dependence; opioid, stimulant, and other drug misuse and dependence. He is also highly experienced in treating complex cases of co-morbidity of mental health and addiction problems, where addiction coincides with anxiety, panic disorder, depression, and OCD.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Kouimtsidis contributes to teaching and research through his roles as clinical lecturer and has received multiple awards recognising his clinical, academic, and service contributions.
