Dr Emma Smith completed her BSc (Hons) at the University of Warwick, an MSc in Forensic Psychology at the University of Portsmouth, and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Christ Church Canterbury University. She worked as a clinical psychologist in a specialist service in a Central London NHS Trust until moving to Sussex where she now works as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the NHS and continues to offer sessions with The Chelsea Psychology Clinic online.
Dr Smith has expertise in mentalisation based treatment and is an accredited supervisor in this approach. She also has specialist training in schema therapy and Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing. Dr Smith also has experience in the management of multi-disciplinary teams in the NHS.
Her special interests include mindfulness, compassion focused therapy, mentalisation based therapy and schema therapy. She has experience in the treatment of anxiety, depression, eating disorders, complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, personality disorder and substance misuse problems.
She also has a particular interest in working with the families, partners and friends of people with mental health problems to support them in understanding their loved ones and coping with the difficulties that can arise in the relationships.
Dr Smith has keen interest in enhancing well-being and performance through the delivery of bespoke psychological interventions and has been involved in the development of the clinic’s wellness retreats since 2019.
