Dr Gareth Drake first began his training with a BSc in Psychology at Warwick University, graduating with First Class Honours, before going on to complete an MSc with Distinction at King’s College. He then undertook a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at UCL. His path has taken him through NHS and private adult services, supporting adult clients, and into a further professional training in psychodynamic approaches at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which has shaped the way he now works with clients.
In the therapy room, Dr Drake brings a warm, flexible approach. He draws on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness Approaches, and Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT), and has a particular interest in psychodynamic approaches. Most importantly, he adapts what he does to fit the person in front of him. All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering you as a whole person rather than a specific issue. They tailor treatment and integrate multiple therapeutic perspectives to create a plan that is both evidence-based and uniquely suited to you.
He works with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including Depression, Anxiety, Panic Disorder, Relationship Difficulties, ADHD, ASD, OCD, and Chronic Pain. Whatever someone is struggling with, Dr Drake aims to offer support that recognises and respects their unique needs and experiences.
Alongside his therapy work, Dr Drake is also involved in supervision, reflective practice, consultation, and teaching, reflecting his passion for supporting others in their professional development and promoting effective, compassionate practice.
