Dr Graham Pickup is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years’ experience of working in the NHS as a psychological therapist, clinical supervisor, trainer and psychology service manager. He completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London in 2000 and subsequently obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy from Oxford University, passing with Distinction. He is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, is an accredited therapist using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society.
Dr Pickup has extensive clinical experience of working with adults of all ages in outpatient, community and inpatient mental health services in the NHS. He has worked with clients with a wide range of emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance misuse, emotion dysregulation and interpersonal difficulties, psychosis and bipolar disorder.
Dr Pickup has trained in a number of specialist evidence-based approaches including CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy. He is skilled in working collaboratively and flexibly with people, taking into account each client’s experiences, cultural background, values, strengths, goals and needs.
Dr Pickup was previously a Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at University College London. He has a research doctorate (PhD) in psychology and has published a number of peer-reviewed research studies on cognitive models of psychosis and schizotypy.
