Dr Irem Aksu first began her training with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Bath, before going on to complete her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City University, London.
In the therapy room, Dr Aksu takes an integrative and collaborative approach. She draws on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person-centred therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and MANTRA. She has a particular interest in working with eating disorders and body image difficulties, while recognising that each person’s experience is unique and shaped by their own context, history, and values. Her approach is grounded in the belief that therapy should be tailored to the individual, rather than the individual being shaped to fit a single model.
All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering you as a whole person rather than a specific issue. They tailor treatment and integrate multiple therapeutic perspectives to create a plan that is both evidence-based and uniquely suited to you.
Dr Aksu aims to support clients in developing a deeper understanding of themselves and the patterns or cycles they may feel stuck in, helping them move towards greater self-compassion, confidence in their own skin, and a more balanced relationship with themselves.
She works with individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, and general life stress. Dr Aksu also has specialist experience in body image concerns and eating disorders. Whatever someone is struggling with, she aims to offer a thoughtful, respectful, and attuned therapeutic space that acknowledges and responds to their individual needs and lived experience.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Aksu is involved in training and supervision. This reflects her wider commitment to psychological wellbeing and to supporting both clients and professionals in developing more meaningful, sustainable, and compassionate ways of living and working.
