Dr Joseph Vacher

Clinical Psychologist

Dr Joseph Vacher first began his training with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Bath, graduating with First Class Honours, before completing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at the University of Oxford. His path has taken him through NHS, high-secure inpatient, prison, hospital, and community services, supporting children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, parents, and older adults, which has shaped the way he now works with clients.

In the therapy room, Dr Vacher brings a flexible and evidence-based approach. He draws on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Systemic Family Therapy (SFT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), tailoring therapy to the needs of each individual. All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering you as a whole person rather than a specific issue. They tailor treatment and integrate multiple therapeutic perspectives to create a plan that is both evidence-based and uniquely suited to you.

Dr Vacher works with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including Anxiety, OCD, Depression, PTSD, Trauma, Anger, Relationship difficulties, Parenting concerns, Postnatal Issues, Adjustment Difficulties/Disorder/Illness, and experiences related to Identity, Discrimination, or Shame, and has experience supporting people with queried or diagnosed ASD or ADHD and Physical & Long-Term Health Conditions.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Vacher has research expertise and has worked as a Research Clinical Psychologist at the University of Oxford, contributing to the development of a treatment programme for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He has published research and presented at national and international conferences, and provides lectures, training, and supervision for therapists.
