Dr Kaan Altan is a clinical psychologist, accredited cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, and a researcher with over fourteen years of experience working in the NHS. During that time, he has supported individuals across the lifespan (children, adolescents, and adults), couples, and families. In addition, he has worked in various mental health settings, including primary care (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies services), inpatient settings, forensic mental health services, and community mental health teams.
Dr Altan currently works in a primary care mental health service within the NHS as a senior clinical psychologist in inner London, supporting adults who experience complex mental health problems. Many of the clients Dr Altan works with have experienced multiple traumas, including childhood neglect and abuse. He also provides specialist psychological assessment and therapy for adults with a range of difficulties, including anxiety disorders (such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Panic, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety, phobias), low mood and depression, low self-esteem, stress, and personality disorders.
In his therapeutic work, Dr Altan uses a range of psychological approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as Systemic Therapy approaches to help people move closer towards the life they want. Dr Altan has also recently undertaken specialist training in Family Intervention for Psychosis at the Institute of Psychiatry for the treatment of psychosis, as well as training in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy with the British Isles and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) with EMDR Academy.
Dr Altan can provide therapy in the both English and Turkish language.
