Dr Laura McDermott first began her training with an MSc in Psychological Studies and a further MSc in Psychological Therapy in Primary Care (both with distinction), before completing her DClinPsy at the University of Glasgow. Her path has taken her through roles in NHS Adult Psychological Therapies Services and a specialist Oncology service in central London, shaping the way she now works with clients.
In the therapy room, Dr McDermott brings an evidence-based and collaborative approach, drawing on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). She tailors her work to meet the needs of each individual, integrating techniques to address emotional difficulties and relational challenges.
All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering you as a whole person rather than a specific issue. They tailor treatment and integrate multiple therapeutic perspectives to create a plan that is both evidence-based and uniquely suited to you.
Dr McDermott works with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, stress, relational difficulties and low self-esteem. She has a particular interest in supporting clients with experience of cancer and other long-term physical health conditions.
