Dr Maria Bermeo is a counselling psychologist, who specialises in working with children, adolescents and young adults. Having obtained her BA in Family Sciences at the University of Maryland in the USA and her MA in Developmental Sciences in Birkbeck University in London, she went on to complete her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of East London. Following several years of practice in diverse setting such as inpatient sites and charities, she is currently working as a counselling psychologist in a London NHS Trust.
Maria is trained in various evidence-based practices, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) as well as psychodynamic therapy.
While she specialises in working with young clients, she has worked with clients of all ages to promote mental health throughout the life span. Maria has significant experience in helping clients struggling with depression, relationship and interpersonal difficulties, anxiety, OCD, emotional dysregulation, self-harm, complex trauma, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental difficulties, domestic violence, and disordered eating.
Maria can provide therapy in both English and Spanish.
