Dr Maria Papanastassiou first began her training with a Medical Degree from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece, before specialising in Psychiatry through the Charing Cross and Imperial College training schemes, London. She also qualified as a Group Analyst and is a teacher and trainer at the Institute of Group Analysis, London. Her path has taken her through roles in general adult psychiatry, eating disorder outpatient services, and ADHD clinics, as well as in higher education supporting student mental health, shaping the way she now works with clients.
In her clinical work, Dr Papanastassiou brings a comprehensive psychiatric approach, combining assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. She draws on her knowledge of group analysis and psychotherapeutic principles to inform her understanding of clients’ emotional and relational experiences, enabling tailored support and interventions.

She has specialist experience in supporting caring professionals, group psychotherapy, and complex emotional difficulties, helping clients to develop insight, resilience, and adaptive strategies.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Papanastassiou is a visiting consultant psychiatrist for London universities, supervises student mental health advisers and counsellors, and serves as an ambassador for the charity Doctors in Distress, reflecting her commitment to education, professional wellbeing, and advocacy.
