Joanne Hourihan is a Forensic Psychologist who first began her training with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Middlesex University, before going on to complete an MSc in Applied Forensic Psychology at Leicester University. Her path has taken her through specialist services in both public and private organisations, where she has supported adults and young people, and into her current role as Head of Therapy for a Mental Health Team in the NHS, which has shaped the way she now works with clients.
In the therapy room, Ms Hourihan brings a flexible and collaborative approach. She draws on training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. She adapts her approach to meet the unique needs of each client, supporting them to develop coping strategies and resilience.
All clinicians at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic are trained to conduct comprehensive assessments, considering clients as a whole person rather than a single issue.
Ms Hourihan works with individuals facing a wide range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger issues, personality disorders, and she also supports clients with neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and learning disabilities.
Alongside her therapy work, Ms Hourihan provides training and supervision for staff teams working with individuals with complex needs in highly pressured environments, reflecting her passion for capacity-building and improving clinical practice.
