Personality disorders actually run through generations. It’s not very clear as to whether that’s because there’s a biological component. Predominantly, we tend to think that the reason for that is that if you have a parent that suffers from a personality disorder, then if they haven’t received any treatment, they might actually have a lot of difficulties with their parenting, and as a result of this, they might pass on some personality disorder traits to their children. So very often, we do see personality disorder in families and running from generation to generation. But, of course, it is very possible to interrupt that process through receiving appropriate treatment.
