We are real believers in giving people access to all the knowledge they need to have in order to make better decisions. So that might be from bibliotherapy to information about different types of therapeutic approaches so that they can make decisions as to what suits them best. I usually draw lots of diagrams. I kind of take pen and paper and write down a bit about how all the different bits of information they’ve told me fit together. And that helps them make choices about what route to take. I tell them a bit about what it will look like if we do therapy “a” versus therapy “b”, what they can expect, what the sessions are likely to cover and be like. So we give them as much information as possible to put them at ease and make sure they’ve got informed consent about their treatment.
