Often change is quite scary, and sometimes we are doing certain behaviours such as shutting ourselves away or using food as a way of coping for specific reasons as a way of trying to better our lives because in that particular moment it might feel better. So that can be difficult to challenge. It can be difficult to change things that, often in the moment, feel comforting. However, with therapy, it can often be about trying to explore, “What do I want to do with my life? With these coping mechanisms I currently have, and is it stopping me from living the way I want to live?” So often working with a therapist can mean that you get more out of your life or that you learn to relate to your emotions in a different way so that you feel that you are engaging more, being a better loved one or a better employee to try and get a more meaningful and fulfilled life.
