Cognitive Behavioural Therapy looks at the thoughts and the behaviours. And so what typically will happen is that your therapist and you will work very collaboratively together in order to get a joint understanding of what happens in your mind, how you feel, what might be happening in your body, and what you then do in specific situations. And initially, you’ll start to really share this understanding by drawing out some vicious cycles and seeing how it all fits together, and then after that, you might look at some very practical ways of starting to break that cycle. Now, that might involve trying to think about things in a slightly different way or trying to kind of think about things in a more helpful way sometimes, and it might also look at specific things that you can do differently in order to stop the behaviours from reinforcing some of the thoughts you might be having.
