It can take some time to know whether PTSD is going to develop so it’s important to allow yourself time after a traumatic event, probably a few months, to see what happens and see whether your mind can process the trauma naturally. If you find your symptoms are continuing after three months and you’re having flashbacks and nightmares or you’re afraid to go in certain situations that might trigger the trauma, for example, you’re afraid to go to a train station or you’re afraid to be around certain people, then that would be a time to seek therapy.
