Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Child and adolescent psychiatry is the sub-specialty of psychiatry that works with children and young people.
Our Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist works closely with The Chelsea Psychology Clinic’s Child Psychologists in support of diagnostic assessments, complex formulations and in treatment planning and delivery with a medical oversight. This encompasses all aspects of care, from taking into account a patient’s developmental and physical health history, to treatment planning, especially around medication. Child and adolescent psychiatry also tends to have a prominent role in the assessment and management of our patient’s risk to themselves or others, such as when there are difficulties such as self-injurious behaviour or suicidality.
Our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is able to assess and treat a wide range of presentations, including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and psychosis. Our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is also skilled in offering screening assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions such as Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Once your child has met with our Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, further psychological treatment and therapy may be recommended within the clinic as part of their treatment plan.
The Chelsea Psychology Clinic’s Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist is Dr Àlex Sales.
